Script Frenzy 2010

I am going to participate in this year's Script Frenzy. Anyone can do it so check out the site! It's free and going to be a lot of fun. Basically it's writing a 100+ page script in the whole month of April. :-) I've been lucky enough to find, she really found me, a writing partner Kelly Johnson.(Heat On The Street) So by the end of April we'll have a feature film length script done! A good writing exercise in creativity. I'll try and post and keep this blog updated through out the month of April.

2010 Harold Lloyd Birthday Bash

Harold Lloyd was a one of the biggest silent & talkie comedians from the 1910's-1940's. He made well over 200 films in his film career.
Harold didn't stop there he went on to pursue many hobbies and to become Imperial Potentate of the Shriners of North America(1949-1950). People all over the world still love and adore his characters he created on screen. Come celebrate Harold's birthday, life and movies with us at his childhood home(corner of 4th & Pawnee St) in Burchard, NE on May 1st starting at 4pm.
Our main film showing this year will be "THE KID BROTHER" from 1927. Our bash will be themed around this movie.

The events of the day include...
-Touring Harold's childhood home. ($2 a person)
-Trivia games for both children and adults. Prizes given to the one who knows the most!
-"Kid Brother" Scavenger Hunt. Can you find all of Harold's glasses around town?
-Supper time! Have a hot dog, chips and a drink. Don't forget a piece of Harold's Birthday Cake!
-Movie time! At dusk, we will set up a 16mm projector and show "THE KID BROTHER" on the side of Harold's house. Free Popcorn for everyone!
There's much more we have planned but those are some of the key events of the day. All the money made at this event will go back into the upkeep of Harold's house.

This year's event is possible because of the generous donations from the Pawnee County Promotional Network, The Harold Lloyd Foundation of Burchard, NE and fans like you that have given!

Day 3 of filming

Day 3 of shooting on the comedy pilot was fun! We had Charla Phillips Roller and Carlea Stafford back on set today for filming. Plus Kathy Phillips made her acting debut as well in a fun bit cameo role. Below are photos from the 3rd day of shooting. It looks like one more day of filming is needed and then we'll be wrapped on this movie. Enjoy the photos!

Day 2 of filming

We are continuing to shoot on our new comedy film. We were joined yesterday by Rachel Riley, (which I last worked with on Spaghetti Noon) & Michael Reiser (who I last worked with on Swindling Charade). It was fun being around and working with these two again. We shot a scene that takes place in a coffee shop. A few weeks ago I posted that DELISH:Bakery and Coffee Shoppe was kind enough to allow us to come in and shoot. It went great! Plus they got great coffee and danishes that we had after we wrapped filming.

Coffee Shop Location

We now have the coffee shop that we'll be using in the film. Delish: Bakery and Coffee Shoppe It's in a newly restored historic building in our local downtown area. The owner, Mrs. George, was very nice and friendly to us. It will be a fun time shooting in here and helping Mrs. George spread the word about her coffee shop and bakery.

Location Scouting

Today Dad and I went location scouting for the movie. We looked around downtown locations where most of the film will take place. Found some good sights down there. Plus we went to a coffee shop that we thought would be ideal for the movie. The owner was a very nice lady. Tomorrow we're going to meet with her to see if she gives us the "thumps up" to shoot in her place.

Update on new film

The new film project is now in full pre-production. I can say that it's a comedy. We had screentests today for everyone and pretty much have the whole project cast now. A few familiar faces will be coming back for this project. Anthony Myers, who hasn't worked with us since Classroom Liaisons in 2006, is back with us again. Another returning actor to the PhillipsFilm fold is Rachel Riley who last acted for us in 2001.
So this project will sort of be a "family reunion" for all of us.

More updates will be coming soon as we're hoping to start full production July 13th.

We are in the final stages of HEAT ON THE STREET being done! It will be released in the next few weeks.

Well it's been awhile since I've posted here. I'm still editing on "Heat on the Street." More on that soon! But in the meantime, I did a 16mm film showing for a senior living center in town. I did this back on Oct 29th and we showed Frankenstein. It went over really well and they are wanting us to come back for another show. Below is the video...Hope you all enjoy! :)

"HEAT ON THE STREET" is our latest film that is currently in production. The story covers two detectives in the late 50's on a case of jewel thieves. But sometimes you have to play both sides if you want to get what you want, right?

Well we're one month into 2008 and I thought I would go ahead and release news of the first few films of the new year I'm hoping to produce soon. These films are for all ages.
If they were going to 'rated,' they would all be PG. The films are as follows....

Terror Highway(Shooting February/March)- A horror short about a mother and daughter and what they encounter on a cross county trip. Malice endures!

Yellow Polka Dot Bikini music video(Shooting May/June)-You've heard the swinging song now see the story come to life! Shot in groovy 60's style.

What a way to start off my 15th year of film making!
We've got lots going on this year for everyone so stay tuned for more info/pics/silly stories from set!!

Thought I should post here as we are getting close to 2007 ending. I'm looking forward to 2008 and all it holds in store for me. I've been penning some stories that hopefully will be going into production in the early parts of 2008. So stay tuned!

You had to follow a theme which was..

"Two people meet. Things are unsaid and it's obvious that one of them is waiting for something. Suddenly a third person arrives, and everything we've come to expect is turned upside down."

Plus the film had to be under 5 minutes so to squeeze all that in was hard but I think it turned out quite well. Enjoy!

Hi everyone! Thought I would give an update on what I've been doing. I was recently given the chance to direct my first stage play. The play is "The Miracle Worker" about the life of Helen Keller and her teacher Annie Sullivan. I had auditions for it this past weekend and we're going into rehearsals this Wednesday. We preform the play on Nov 16-18th in the Missouri Theater here in town.

My film projects will be put on hold while I'm doing this at this time. If you'd like to follow along with my theater directing adventure, I've started a separate blog here.

RTTW Memories Part III -Aug 15th 2002

5 years ago today we were out at night shooting woods scenes of Laura Bilecki getting attacked by veins and pulled through the woods. I remember it was pretty nice out that night not to humid. Laura was the only one in the scene so Steven,
Anthony and myself stayed behind the camera. Laura was a real trooper and got right out there and did everything. No complaining. I haven't worked with any actresses like her that would let us tie veins around her and let us drag her through the woods.
Anthony's dad came and gave us power with the generator that night as I didn't have a power inverter at the time.
So now with Laura's attack all finished up(we had to do some re-shoots later on but more on that when the date comes around) we were almost complete with the outside shooting. We still hadn't found an interior set for the cabin. But we would find one soon enough and it would prove a great place for the rest of our film shoot. Till n(axe)t time...

RTTW Memories Part II-Aug 12 2002

On this date in 2002 we were shooting the first of the basement shots for Return to the Woods. The basement wasn't apart of the cabin set interior we used. The basement is the one we have under our own house. In the 5 years that have passed from shooting this it could still be used as nothing much has changed down there. Well maybe a few more cobwebs.
The scenes only involed myself, Cohen Phillips(playing the charcter of James) Anthony Myers(Derick) and Charla Phillips(Geri). Laura Bilecki came and helped behind the scenes for this scene as well serving as script girl. Here is the group below from that night of filming.

The shooting went fairly smoothly from what I can remember. The basement isn't a full basement it's dug out. So getting down there can be tricky. I know Anthony bumped his head once on a pipe. It was so good and he thought it would be funny that we did a take with him hitting his head. This didn't make it into the final cut but with the re-edit coming soon I think I'm going to put it back in. In this scene also we find the Book of the Dead and famous tape player with the translations sayings on it that awake the dead. We had a few hints and nods to the Evil Dead series and creators in this scene. Some of the takes with alterative lines will be used in the re-edit of the film that will be coming soon and that will be up on the net.

Return to the Woods Memories Part I-Aug 7th 2002

August 8th 2002 we were out shooting Return to the Woods! We didn't have any interior cabin set at the time so we shot all the outside woods scenes first. I remember it was a pretty hot day out. And from filming on the 1st day(Aug 7th 2002) and this day I knew we had a great cast together and it was going to be a lot of fun shooting this. On this 2nd day of filming we shot 'the evil force' slamming into a tree and knocking it down almost crushing poor Derick(Anthony Myers) Everyone did all there own stunts here folks! haha Even Anthony peeing his pants, but more on that later.

The shoot would go into several weeks in production. With a week or two that went by with nothing done because school started back in session. And all of us were in school at that time. :) So here are are few "flashback" photos from our 1st and 2nd day of shooting Return to the Woods. As more dates come along we filmed on I'll post a mini-retrospective of that day plus photos ect. So stay tuned for an 'axe'clusive look back at the making of Return to the Woods and what's to follow.

Premiere Night=Film Fun!

Well everyone I'm happy to report that our premiere this past Thursday(April 5th) went great! Pretty much all the cast/crew from the films we were showing made it out. Plus a couple of people I hadn't seen in awhile! It was great re-uniting with everyone again and hearing the audience reaction to each film. We showed Lip-Stick, Swindling Charade, Classroom Liaisons and Love Lifted Me.(which the pic above is about)
They really reacted great all around and I think they enjoyed what they saw. We also had this as a fundraiser for my father and I'm happy to say people were very generous with their donations. Thanks again everyone for making the evening so great!

Walter Armentrout 1950-2007

We've lost a very dear friend and actor today March 4th 2007. We got a call at about 5:30pm telling us the news that Walter Armentrout, that we worked with on Voice of the Dead made in 2003, had passed away. We are greatly sadden by this lost. Wally was such a wonderful guy to be around. He made you feel at ease and put a smile on your face for sure! He had a great wit about him that lent itself so well to the role he played in Voice of the Dead as Bob the Butler. Not only did he act in the film he provided his house as the location for the movie. Without Wally and his wife Kathy that film would have never been made.

A little less than a year ago they moved to Florida but we remained in contact. It was a lot of fun working with Wally and he was such a natural at what he could do. I was longing to work with him again one day. One of these days we will...in that big movie set in heaven. Thanks Wally for your friendship and your devotion to your craft. I will never forget the impact you've had on me and all the rest of the cast and crew here at PhillipsFilms. May you rest in peace my friend. -Cohen Phillips

Testing a new camera

Anthony Myers and myself were out and about a few days ago testing out a new 16mm camera I've gotten. It's a Kodak K-100. We'll be sending the film in soon and see how the camera has done. I'm sure we'll be using it on a future production if all turns out well. :)

A New Film

A new film finished production on November 22nd. This film is for a film contest over at filmshooting.com that is ending on Dec 25th. It took awhile to get this film in the can but it was all in the timing and I got all the people that I wanted to be in it and they all did great! The basic story is that 2 friends(Suzie and Tammi played by Charla Phillips and Autumn Lindsay McHenry) find out something that has been a secret between the two for awhile. Here are a few pics from filming. Also on hand for filming was Donna Lewis(who did camera work on 2002's Just Do It), Anthony Myers, Hannah Myers and Mary Myers.
Post production now starts on the project.

The Story Behind the Movie

This short was done for the indietalk.com film contest they had back in May. The rules were really pretty open and they gave you 6 weeks to get a short 5min or less film finished. So I decided to do something really different and try a turn for the serious part of storytelling. I have never done anything like this short before, but I've always wanted to do something that would make people really think and appreciate what they have. So I started searching the internet for some stories with this in mind. I wrote down a few ideas but nothing came from that.

Is it already November? Just 2 more months of 2006 left! WOW has it gone by fast for anyone else? Well that's still 2 more months to shoot some films in. We got a couple projects lined out on the table after a short break in Oct. Editing continues on the next silent film project with the 'Tramp.' The footage has come back looking great and this has been alot of fun putting it together so far. More updates soon!

My next project has been in the works for sometime now. Shooting takes place next weekend. I can give away a few details about it. We have a new lead actor that I'm going to be working with. His name is Damian Blake and very talented. I met with him and some of the other PhillipsFilms crew a few weeks back. A very nice guy and I'm looking forward to working with him. I also can say that this is going to be a silent film. I've been waiting to shoot this story for sometime now. More updates coming this weekend as filming starts.

As you all know Swindling Charade was chosen to play at Wreck-Beach Film Festival. The festival is now over. It ran from the 3-5th this month. I'm waiting to hear back from the founder of the festival of how well Swindling Charade was received. But I know for a fact it was the ONLY silent film showing! :) More soon...

Small update

Wanted to post to let everyone know that we are still alive and kicking over here. The past couple months we've been working on projects but nothing has gotten off the ground. But now that the end of summer is here and people will be going back to school soon it seems like there is now a "rush" to do a film or two before that. So the gears have really started to turn and a few projects that were in pre-production stage up until this point are going to be moving into full production within the coming weeks.

There is also a LIVE CAM on the main page now. I will announce times when we are filming or rehearsing where you'll be able to see what's going on LIVE and be able to chat with us as well. So stay tuned for updates!

The Keystone Kid Returns!

Micheal Reiser aka The Keystone Kid is set to appear in his OWN silent film! Cohen Phillips and company went on location today to do screentesting of other actors for the "Keystone Kid film."
After seeing people the cast was chosen right on the spot! Everyone that audition has a role in the film and shooting looks to take place next Saturday. The cast as it stands now are...

Quite a mixed group of characters huh? Character names and story are still being polished but cameras will role on the next silent film next Saturday! Pictures, interviews and more with the cast/crew next weekend!

A note about Jennifer Niztband's silent film-The film did not shoot when it was schedule because of a family emergency. All is well now and things are shaping up with the film with a start date looking at the start of May or perhaps sooner. More info on this film later.

Jennifer will be playing Ruby, Arthur's latest gal pal. Story details are kept hush-hush for right now. But look out for more info and pics next weekend when shooting happens!

The new team of CBS,(Cohen Phillips, Brooke Willhite and Stephanie Hunter) is now in pre-production of a movie they will be working on in Summer 2006. All 3 of them brainstormed and finally came up with something they liked. A murder mystery storyline. Brooke is writing the story and they'll all get together to write the screenplay. More info will be out soon once the story and script are completed and we move into production of the movie. Stay tuned for updates!

Back in Action!

That's right folks, you heard it first right here! Anthony Myers and Cohen Phillips will be working together again. But this time with a bit of a twist. For many films Cohen has direct Anthony, but now that's about to change. Anthony will get his big chance to make his first "major" project, yes he's very own. He thought up the story, wrote the script and will direct. Cohen Phillips on the other hand will produce and have a bit part in the movie. The movie is a drama/thriller. A production meeting went on tonight at the PhillipsFilms headquarters and a lot of things got done. All the sets/locations were set and cast was finalized."The cast is a mix of new and old faces, which will all be contacted this week..." says Cohen. Now as Producer Cohen has to go and make it all happen. This week they'll be more actives done on the film which will start shooting on or around Dec 17th. The title will be reveled soon as well.

Next weekend the first rehearsal will happen.
We'll hopefully have video/pics from this event!

Wow it doesn't seem possible that 2005 is almost over! It's gone by fast hasn't it?
Well we still got stuff going on all this month in Dec. A couple films will be released this mouth and then we're also going to be shooting our newest project as well. More on the new project later. :) Just wanted to update before we hit in Dec where it'll really get busy with updates. Hopefully!

Invisible Man- One Year Anniversary!

It's been a little over a year now, Oct 22nd, but our film Curse of the Invisible Man has just had it's one year anniversary. The film was made for the indietalk.com film contest. And on Nov 11th 2004 the film one Judge's Choice and Best Score award.

Below is a question posted on indietalk.com for Micia. Her answer follows...
"You did an amazing job in that. How hard was it reacting to "nothing" else in the scenes?"

I had Cohen speaking to me off camera, so I was able to hear the line as if someone were there. I just had to stay focused and in the scene-as if it were actually happening. I also had a specific place onscreen where I "heard" the voice, even though that wasn't actually where it was coming from.

The murder scene wasn't too difficult-Cohen "strangled" me before we shot, so I was able to see what movements would be realistic, and then I just imitated those as best I could.

"Love Lifted Me" nearing completion

I'm happy to report that LOVE LIFTED ME is nearing completion. The movie has cut together so far so good and I'm just finishing that up. Also the main titles are being worked on and should be done within this month. I'm planning on having a premiere of this movie(as well as showing a few others along with it this fall.) I'll keep you all updated on the progress of the movie. :)

Also indietalk.com is having another 6-week film contest that started back on the 16th. I think I'm going to try and shoot something for it. Just thinking up some ideas for it. More on this later...

NIGHTBEAT delayed till '06

NIGHTBEAT filming is delayed till next year. We're looking at either a Spring or Summer '06 start for the rest of the movie. People have been emailing me about this so I thought I would post it. And since the main site hasn't been updated since April by the webmaster thought I'd post it here.

But don't worry something is in the works for this Dec that I hope you all will enjoy. Also Love Lifted Me will be coming out this fall as will some of our silent films. So stay tuned!

Hey guys...a quick update. I know the website(PhillipsFilms) hasn't been updated for awhile, but I'm going to get to that. Got to write my webmaster right after I write this. But I just wanted to share with you what's been going on here in filmland. Just a few weeks ago I shot the first of a few short 1920's-30's silent comedies. We shot this one on Super 8 Black and White film! Here are a few pics from the production. In the pics you'll see me, Cohen Phillips as Arthur, Brooke Willhite as Vera and Michael Reiser as the Kid. Hey Everyone! We shot our first scene of Chapter 3 back on May 28th so I thought I'd update you with some behind the scenes pictures from that day. This is the scene where the mob bosses meet in the warehouse.

We had a great cast for this scene. Returning is Rick Stafford(NightBeat Chapter 1) who plays Spallone. Wally Armentrout(Voice of the Dead) joins us playing Patton. And introducting our newest memeber to the PhillipsFilm gang, J. Palmer playing Rocco. Of course the ususal bunch was on hand as well helping behind the scenes this time. Charla Phillips(Voice of the Dead) Micia Bektal(Curse of the Invisible Man) Kathy Phillips(I will never be homeless)and Anthony Myers.(Return to the Woods) More updates as filming goes on! Stay tuned. Micia, Anthony and Charla setting up some prop boxes to smash into. This is the way they do it in Asia!

NightBeat Chapter 2 and 3 starts rolling on Saturday. The first scene we are shooting is a gun battle in a warehouse. Other scenes will follow on weekends through out the summer. We've got alot of regular cast/crew but also we have found some new blood for the films.

Love Lifted Me starts production Satuday 5th. Filming will go on all this weekend.
Starring Micia Bektal and Cohen Phillips. Shot on Location in Kansas City, MO. Balloons will be provided by KC Aerosports.

The time has come for my next movie to be online! This is Chapter 1 of the serial I'm planning to do.
It's a film noir based in the 40's/50's. The story involves Detective Jack Gibson taking a murder case about a madman who has gotten his hands on some radium and plans to use it. Along the way Jack runs into Jasmine Clover, a sultry vixen he once knew. Can he withstand her advances and get to the radium in time before all is lost?

Hello everyone once again,

I've just started doing interviews of cast and crew for the NIGHTBEAT Chapter 1 DVD. Friday I interviewed Toria Best, our photographer who re-created pin up photos for the film. Also she brought along one of her models that was in the pin ups, Shania. This is the first time I had met Shania and it was all my pleasure. If you think she's the typical "model type" your wrong. So nice and fun to be around. :) I have posted a few pics below of the interview from today. One serious, One "crazy." I'll be doing interviews with the cast as well this weekend and coming week. Happy New Year everyone! I know this is really late, but been alittle busy. The premiere for NIGHTBEAT Chapter 1:The Killer Wore A Badge went GREAT! We had about 70 people show up for the showing. It could seat 89, so we were almost had a full crowd. The local newspaper also did a write up about us. About 1/3 the audience was the public! Killer Wore a Badge: Premiere Set!

The Premiere of Cohen Phillips' newest film, The Killer Wore a Badge is set for Dec 29th at 6:30pm at a local mini-theatre. The theatre seats about 100. 2 showings might be in order if we get a big crowd. I'll keep you updated on this and also look for pics from the event soon afterwards.
